Jon Stewart from 1996 - Same Issues as Today

I came across this on the Blogrush site.

It's an old stand-up appearance by Jon Stewart back in 1996 from a performance in Miami. He talks about bombing other countries, the United States being 15th in education, and leadership - all still pertinent today.

At the end he implores politicians: "You want to be President? Be BETTER than us! Lead us!" If only...

The scary thing (other than the fact we're even worse off now than in 1996) is how young Jon Stewart looks back then!

That was a great, clip. I really enjoyed it...man, he DOES look young in that video! Then again...I think a lot of us have gone prematurely gray with Bush in office.

LOL, that could be a factor, ME! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm having Jon Stewart withdrawal with no new Daily Shows being on so I was happy to find this clip.

Good clip and it could have been made today.

Man, I'm going to have to come back tomorrow from the office. My pissy connection won't let me ogle Jon Stewart.

Trust me, though, I've crushed on him since way back in 1996 and before, back when he was on MTV.

And how sad is it that we've not managed to progress past the same issues after ten years?

In my own little opinion, during the Clinton years we began to move forward in a good way, then along came bush and we came to a halt and began to move backward to a place none of us wanted to go.

Oh, 1996. Junior in college all full of vim and vigor . . .

Makes you think, where did the time go. He did know when to jump off the wagon while all the wheels still worked!

wow, that was 11 years ago!!! I thought the world was better then. Maybe I was wrong, I just become more critical (old).

It is sad that we haven't improved in 10 years, and in fact, per PoP's point, actually gotten worse.

Nick, sadly, the world has not been a better place for a long time. Sometimes I listen to Phil Ochs' protest songs from the 60's and we haven't changed a bit...one of his songs, very pertinent today, was the one that goes "We're the cops of the world, boys, we're the cops of the world." And we're still playing that part. But I know what you mean, as we get older, the past always tends to look rosier! ;-)

Evil Spock, you make me feel old! You were a mere child in 1996! LOL! (I was a junior in college, OMG, it was 34 years ago!)

Hi mauigirl- I just thought I'd stop by and invite you and your fellow bloggers to a Live Blog session at my blog tomorrow afternoon during the NPR Democratic Debate in Iowa. This is something new, but I think it might be fun. If you have time, stop by and put in your two cents.

Here's a post at my blog that explains the whole thing.

Thanks! I hope I didn't overstep my bounds by coming over here to do this, but I don't know how else to get the word out.

Great, thanks Mary Ellen! Of course it's not overstepping anything, glad to know about it!
