Howling Dogs - No, It's Not the Senate

You must go to this link and watch the singing/howling dogs that were featured on Rachel Maddow's show tonight. There are additional clips that weren't shown on her show. They are all well worth watching - you'll howl with delight.

It was particularly interesting to me that more than one dog howled when hearing the theme song for Empire Carpets - and one responded to the Colbert Report's theme song!

Interestingly, our dog Diva slept through the entire panoply of howling dogs. Apparently howling means nothing to a pit bull terrier.

Baxter, on the other hand, was seriously freaked out and after looking around in horror, had to leave the room.

You can watch them here.

Those were great! I brought Stub into the office and played a few for her. She got fired up also hearing some of the other dogs. The Jack Russell Terrier I think was her favorite.

The Rachel Maddow show has gone to the dogs!
Then again, it is probably a refreshing break from reporting on the dogs in D.C.

Still, it is torture to play a harmonica to a dog w sensitive hearing?

Funny Diva ignored it, & Baxter opted to take cover.

Mr. M, I'm not surprised your dog responded to the dogs' howlings.

Fran, I was wondering about that too - I'm sure part of it is that their ears don't appreciate the sound. But on the other hand, why the Colbert Report music? It doesn't seem to be that shrill.

I used to have a Pekingese dog that would howl if I played the plastic clarinet I had (I was a kid at the time). I suppose that probably hurt his ears.

Diva was oblivious to the entire thing - and I watched all of the videos with the sound up pretty loud! Baxter was convinced that dogs were invading his house.

Since I don't have television I can't try this out on my dogs. However, they always howl together when a siren sounds nearby. I join in with them and we howl for at least five minutes just for the fun of it.

Not surprisingly, they make much more sense than the howling coming from DC.

Our old Lab always ALWAYS responded to the theme for Jeopardy! Even if she was asleep, she'd start whining and singing along. Hard to say whether she loved or loathed Jeopardy.

She hated harmonica so much, we could not listen to Neil Young when she was around. She'd go batshit from the first harmonica note to the last, howling and panting, not happy at all.

I'd play these fun dogs vids for Clyde except he is now deaf. He used to respond to seeing other dogs on TV, but nowadays he doesn't see too well either.

I enjoyed them though! Arrrr arrrr arrrrrrrrrrr .....
