Those Pictures I Promised

This is a view from our lanai, looking westward.

This is the view looking east.

One of "our" whales in the bay.

A view taken while walking on the beach.

Blogging on the lanai (wearing my new visor that says "Maui" on it).

The traditional picture taken by the dead tree. We have been taking pictures by this leaning tree since 20+ years ago - in the beginning the tree was still alive. Every year it gets deader and deader; its bark has all worn away and it has been smoothed by the ocean into driftwood. Those bushy things sticking up are two bouquets someone attached to the branches.
Someday when we come here it will be gone altogether.

Sunset, taken from our lanai.

Hope you enjoyed them...more to come.

I'll write about the primary results in the morning...

That was just cruel of you. It is bleak and rainy here.

This was a lovely break from the news of the day! Thanks for sharing!

Those are some beautiful shots. I'm one of those weirdos who actually prefers cooler and more overcast climes, but that wouldn't be a bad place to visit.

Mauigirl - Those were lovely. /* BIG SIGH */

Randal - I'm one of those weirdos, also.

Friend #2, my Seasonal Affective Disorder is totally cured. Until I come back of course!

Sue, glad you enjoyed it!

Randal and Nick, sometimes when I'm here and dream about living here permanently, I wonder whether I'd ever get tired of having one perfect beautiful warm day after another. But then I remember there are parts of the island that are cool and overcast and if I wanted to go there I could.

That's the interesting thing about islands like Maui - the higher elevations are nothing like the lower ones. We were in the "upcountry" yesterday and the temperature was about 15 degrees cooler (mid-60's) and it was cloudy. Down here by our condo it was still 80 and sunny. And about a month ago there was a snowfall on the top of the volcano (which you can drive to with no problem).

The other nice thing about Hawaii is that even when it's hot it's not really hot - about 82 degrees year round, with a constant breeze.

I hope you have room. We're moving in!

The fact that you came and commented thoughtfully on 92 of my blog posts as you were listening to the surf and feeling the cool ocean breeze on your arms and face and smelling the salty air. Lovely. It makes me feel like you left a little trail of sand all over my blogs. Great pictures!

Great photos!

It's difficult to imagine such a lovely, warm place exists sitting here in New York state.

Oh well, 9 more months and we are so out of here! No more snow and winter for us!

Beautiful, so peaceful.

Such the contrast here.

I'm with Randal in that if I had my choice of places to visit I would probably choose Iceland, coastal Greenland, Newfoundland/Labrador, Norway, Sweden, Alaska, etc.

But those are GREAT pictures, and with winter the way it is here in NE Oregon, I'd sure be glad to go check out Maui. Mrs. Snave has been there a few times years ago, and she says it's fantastic!

She and I will be going on a Mediterranean cruise this summer with my mom and her friend, and I think I will wear an Obama button while traveling over there.

Wow, they're all like postcards from paradise!

I could live right there the rest of my life. You can't beat Mother Nature when it comes to beauty.

Thanks for stopping by to comment. Those pictures are somehow relaxing me. If I can't have a vacation, a virtual one works fine! :-)

Hi everyone, glad to have been able to spread a little Maui sunshine to everyone!

OMyWord, I was so happy to have the time to catch up with your posts!

Christopher, do you mean you are moving away from the frozen North in 9 months? Where to? BTW, from your profile you live in the town I lived in for 5 of my most formative years - age 9 to 14!

Snave, that Mediterranean cruise sounds great, hope you share some pictures with us when you go. I would enjoy going to some of those other places you mention as well - we actually were in Newfoundland two summers ago and it was wonderful. We're also big fans of Scotland, Ireland, etc., where there are a lot more clouds than here!

Konagod, hope these pictures raised your spirits - I'll be posting more soon, so do come back! I'm also going to add you to my blogroll so I'll be keeping up with you as well!

Yes, I did enjoy the memories. of Hawaii. I don't know a place in the world that has a better sunrise or sunset. Thanks for bringing back the clear memories of what we've seen there.

Which beach is this on? I've seen a similar tree on two different beaches!

Kuanyin, it's Sugar Beach - on North Kihei Road. Right before the Kealia wildlife refuge.

Thanks, everyone for stopping by and enjoying Maui with me!
