Ditto to what larry said and avoid doctors in the first place, if you can.

Always a good idea if possible, POP, but it's important to see one if you need one! ;-)

Back in Feb I went to the Dr. complaining of pain in my abdomen.

He said it was probably from my Adderall because it can cause constipation.

Four hours later I was in the hospital because my appendix split open.

That happened to me. They misdiagnosed GERD as a peptic ulcer.

Hi Fairlane, I too was misdiagnosed when I had appendicitis back when I was about 23. It ruptured and I spent 10 days in the hospital.

Tomcat, glad to hear your diagnosis turned out to be less severe than what they first thought.

I used to be a hypochondriac so I avoid medical books now.

Rhea, I can relate! I've finally gotten to the point where I don't assume everything I read about is something I have. But I still have to fight it! I'm too interested in medical subjects to give up reading about them though.

If you have hypochondria and then read about hypochondria, do you begin to develop the symptoms?

Good question, Fairlane. After all, hypochondria can be a symptom of other illnesses (mental ones, usually!). So yes, I can see why a hypochondriac might worry once they read about it and think they are one.
