Did Ann Coulter Really Say That?!?

While reading the Boston Globe funnies this morning, I saw the Sylvia comic quoting Ann Coulter as having said "It would be a much better country if women did not vote." Since Sylvia, like The Daily Show, is a fairly reliable source of information, I decided to Google the quotation and see what the context was.

Sure enough, I found it: In a Jonathan Freedlander column from 2003. Apparently she said this because without the women, the Republicans would have won all the elections:

"Who exactly has the vote who shouldn't have? 'Women,' she says, laughing. 'It's true. It would be a much better country if women did not vote. That is simply a fact. In fact, in every presidential election since 1950--except Goldwater in '64--the Republican would have won, if only the men had voted.'"

Apparently it was said tongue-in-cheek. However, I also found another website in my searches that brought me to a list of all of her other quotations (found on the American Politics Journal site). These comments were not so tongue-in-cheek and I find it truly scary that this woman exists, let alone gets so much airtime and publicity.

Ann Coulter is one of those people I've tried to avoid like the plague (along with Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and Bob Grant, to name a few) and now that I've read up on some of her viewpoints, it has just confirmed my feelings about her. However, I'm happy to have discovered the American Politics Journal so my search had a positive outcome!

I am next going to devote the rest of the weekend to catching up on all of the blogs that I haven't had a chance to read in the past week. It may take me a week to catch up!

It's pretty clear that if you have to choose between reading Ann Coulter or reading blogs, you should be spending more time reading blogs.

I don't read the Culteears of the world. Reality is scary enough. But my blog doesn't make a living. The Culteears get paid for their hate.

Coulter reminds me of that spinning red thing in the old Star Trek, the thing that fed off of people's anger. If we all ignore her, she'll dry up and blow away.

I spell her last name a bit differently...but ne'er the less....

"
Apparently it was said tongue-in-cheek"

There is NOTHING comes out of that living abortion that is tongue and cheek. Why does she get so much press? She's the "train wreck" everybody wants to secretly watch. The networks know this, they goad her, even coach her....it's all on big act.

Coulter is the vilest of witches and that quote is just a mere sample of her venom.

You know- whatever I was going to say pales in comparison to the words of my blogfriend Pygalgia...

People getting paid for hate.

File under Coulter, Malkin, Hannity, O'Reilly and more.

Glad to see you post- I've missed you and will link to this if the day goes according to plan!

Pygalgia, that's one of the things that amazes me, is that this woman is getting rich on her hatefulness.

Doug - You are so right, excellent analogy! As I recall, the spinning thing was vanquished by the crew and the Klingons laughing. Maybe if everyone laughed at her she'd go away.

Future, LOL, I like your spelling better. You may be right that she was totally serious; I may have been giving her too much benefit of the doubt.

Larry, agree - that's why I've so seldom paid any attention to what she's saying. It amazes me that people put her on the air with the things she says.

Fran, thanks for the reminder about Hannity and O'Reilly, etc. - how could I have forgotten them? More hatemongers.

What planet does Ann Coulter come from? She's pathetic.

Loren,
I am not sure I could spend much more time reading blogs than I already do, LOL!

Rhea, she truly is pathetic. I think she's worse than any of the other culprits in terms of sheer outrageousness.

THE FUTURE WAS YESTERDAY HAS ME STONE COLD ON THIS...

...have to admit to being one of those lefties who has a perverse interest in her because she is absolutely the most bizarre person in the public eye. If she's making all this up as she goes along as some kind of joke, then she's the comic genius of all time. You can just completely forget about Jonathan Swift. If it's all real, then it's the best freakshow out there.

O'Reilly and Hannitty and that fuckhead Dennis Miller just make me mad.

Savage makes me sad.

Matthews makes me feel vertigo.

Russert makes me feel like I have a really bad flu.

I have never failed to fall asleep while watching the Jim Lehrer newshour.

But I really can't get enough of Ann Coulter. I'm not about to waste time reading her absurd books but I consider the rare times I catch her while flipping to a ballgame or I see her on crooksandliars to be a real treat.

She really is a national treasure. Nobody could possibly be that mean and crazy.
