Sunday Night Haiku

A million crickets
Fill the night with their singing
Late August is loud!

During the daytime
The cicadas are screaming
"Today will be hot!"

But then comes the autumn
And the first frost of the year
All becomes silent.

Dark will come early
Winter will be setting in
My spirits will drop.

How long must I wait
Till summer comes 'round again?
Will I last till spring?

  1. Nice poem.
    mine:
Luck is where you find it
    never deny it
    love is there
    when it's not
    but it doesn't hurt
    to try it
so, cold pizza and slow runs
    make me love
    some other option

  4. Summer lost it's way
    Maine fungus exploded
    Til August came our way

  5. There's something peaceful about the cicadas that make me want to just sit outside.

  7. I know how it is, enigma. I also got kicked off fb awhile back. So I'm being real real careful about who I add back now and my profile viewing is real restricted.

I just sent you my information these days.

  8. You have captured my feelings exactly. I see this long expanse of cold coming, and the summer was truly the pits. Sigh...

  9. I think the seasonal cycle was extrememly long this year - as far as summer in concerned. We got the summer temps as early as March this year. All reports are stating that our winter will be warmer and less precipitation. Which is weird because we have not had a serious winter in ten years. (Ohio Valley). But I love these late summer nights out on the deck and the cicadas humming and cool breeze. Too soon we will be relegated to the indoors once again.
