English...There's confusion in the language debate. English is already our national language, and so it should be. The neocons want to make English our "official" language to forbid the provision of government services in any other language. That is both wrong and mean spirited. When people from foreign lands move here, it takes time for them to assimilate, including mastering English.

Noonan is incorrect. There is already a language with which we can hearten each other. It's a smile or a helping hand extended.TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11397335545286040472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-77587795981908010722007-07-11T19:54:00.000-04:002007-07-11T19:54:00.000-04:00I agree, PunditMom. It always amazes me when I meet people from other countries and they speak English so fluently - and often another language besides, making them fluent in 3+ languages. And so few people here even know one other language.Mauigirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15529827915262851910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-9233737218144517212007-07-11T17:00:00.000-04:002007-07-11T17:00:00.000-04:00I'm no fan of Peggy Noonan, but there's something ...I'm no fan of Peggy Noonan, but there's something to be said for just trying to learn other languages as a way of being connected with the world. Most other countries encourage their students to learn English from a young age, so why not get our kids some foreign languages when they're young, too. Couldn't hurt!PunditMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12919969826505761593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-16849731296450241502007-07-10T19:52:00.000-04:002007-07-10T19:52:00.000-04:00Thanks, Kuanyin! However, it is so different from the Indo-European languages and there are so many different dialects, I don't foresee it becoming "Standard" the way English is. But I have been wrong before! ;-) I agree I usually do not agree with Peggy Noonan's politics. But this column was an interesting point of view.

Liz, thanks for asking - Diva is at the vet as we speak getting her little bump taken off her arm. We have an appointment with the oncologist in two weeks (she can get the stitche sout at the same time). I hope if she goes on the oral chemo that the oncologist mentioned would be the next step if she got another tumor, that it will forestall her getting more of these so soon. I'll post an update as soon as I know how she is.Mauigirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15529827915262851910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-38852038570198323572007-07-09T08:27:00.000-04:002007-07-09T08:27:00.000-04:00Communication is always good. How's Diva?Communication is always good.

How's Diva?Liz Hindshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04646532093872561703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-26061404696049081612007-07-08T18:34:00.000-04:002007-07-08T18:34:00.000-04:00Peggy Noonan's main language is neocon doublespeak...Peggy Noonan's main language is neocon doublespeak, however I think if someone is going to come here, they should learn the language.

If Spanish becomes a language of second norm, Chinese will eventually push one or the other out, since China has an increasing presence here, as they continue to take U.S jobs and technology.Larryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05283557503536810926noreply@blogger.com
