Things do come in their own time, and we are brought to the important crossroads in our lives when time holds we should. I'm a Trek fan from way back, so I applaud the source.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-69506592734852673702007-07-30T23:51:00.000-04:002007-07-30T23:51:00.000-04:00I like that song! I value friends, old and new, and there is something really special about old friends, but sadly, I've had to let some old friends go lately.

I think for me some of the problem was changing and growing apart, but maybe even more than that was that I changed a lot and the people who were my friends then aren't necessarily who I'd choose for friends today.

You hear it happen a lot in romantic relationships where we date those we are accustomed to even if they are bad for us. Well, I did that same thing except with some of my friends.

As I've grown more sure of what I want in a friendship, those friends who never quite measured up had to go. It's not that they changed, but that I realized how they'd been all along just wasn't what I wanted in my life.

So there is value to knowing yourself and your expectations well early on, but of course that isn't something we can really control! Good for you though that you have friends from back then still in your life. I wish I had even more of those types of friends but we moved too much when I was very young to allow for that for me.Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14019009149011549894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-63963515758124564262007-07-25T16:29:00.000-04:002007-07-25T16:29:00.000-04:00Mauigirl, that was indeed a touching interlude. I have often thought that time in someone's live is like a river in reverse, starting in one place, but branching and eddying with each decision we make.TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11397335545286040472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-47151398346813660562007-07-25T16:07:00.000-04:002007-07-25T16:07:00.000-04:00Patricia, I'm sure moving makes it much harder to ...Patricia, I'm sure moving makes it much harder to keep in touch, especially if you move when you're young. I did lose touch with my oldest grade-school friend. Not only did I move after 3rd grade, but so did she! And 8 year-olds aren't so good at writing!

Beverly, thanks so much for the compliment on my blog! I too know the importance of friends from long ago. I don't keep in touch with many as some have grown apart, which is part of life, but I do keep in contact with a friend from grammar school and one from high school. As you said, it's great to have someone who remembers who we once were and can share in our growth and change as sisters of the heart.Beverlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11528265309741637151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-72392611039669678532007-07-25T15:31:00.000-04:002007-07-25T15:31:00.000-04:00A very touching post. The friend I still have from 8th grade and I were out of touch for something like five years a few years back - I kept trying to contact her and finally she wrote back, thanking me for "not giving up on her" and explained she'd gotten divorced and become depressed and it took her awhile to pull herself out of it. I was glad I kept trying to make contact.Mauigirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15529827915262851910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-90651539001722969042007-07-25T09:04:00.000-04:002007-07-25T09:04:00.000-04:00What a great post! It's sad to lose old friends and it seems these days, it's not as easy as it used to be to make new friends. Everyone is busy with their own lives and don't want to take the time to just get together and have coffee or play cards. When I was a kid, when my parents would sit out on the front porch, it wouldn't be long before a few more neighbors came out and then a few more. Before you know it, the yard was full of kids running around catching lightening bugs or playing tag, and the porch was full of grownups laughing and talking. What happened to those days?Mary Ellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07835150057881066641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-39738087324014808752007-07-24T20:45:00.000-04:002007-07-24T20:45:00.000-04:00Good article:Funny how one person can affect so ma...Good article:

Funny how one person can affect so many lives without meaning to do so.

Those events weren't coincidences, they were meant to be.Larryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05283557503536810926noreply@blogger.com
