So, a quick catch-up here -

Annette, thaks - wish I'd gotten on a case but maybe next time!

Giggles, I am a failure so far at our little contest. I need to buckle down. At least you're exercising!

TheMom - there seems to be no rhyme or reason why some people get called repeatedly and others - never.

Tom - yes, that's the way it used to be here but it changed. I guess it was too hard on people who had to work and didn't get paid for the two weeks.

DK, yes, polygamy would be an interesting case to be on! Hope you get called one of these days!

Christopher, yes, I think they ask that question here as well, perhaps in general. I don't remember being asked it personally. They also ask if you've been a crime victim so they try to get at either side of the prejudice.

Twice a year, Omnipotent Poobah? That is really often! I think theoretically we could get called that often but no one is. I'm in New Jersey and I guess we have plenty of people here to keep them supplied.Mauigirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15529827915262851910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-50940186289770133252009-02-27T21:37:00.000-05:002009-02-27T21:37:00.000-05:00Where do you live? Or at least I think I would because I would like to see what really takes place in our justice system.

I was called once and I was asked by one of the lawyers if I trust cops.

When I replied "no," I was excused.Christopherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15788931352232874850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-11482737979364586442009-02-26T20:35:00.000-05:002009-02-26T20:35:00.000-05:00In Calif, I used to get called for JD every 2-yrs,...In Calif, I used to get called for JD every 2-yrs, but was automatically excused due to being self-employed. Now that I've moved to another state and I'm free and available, I have yet to be called. I'd love to serve! Seeing first-hand how the system really works would be fascinating.

I would've especially been thrilled to serve on the big polygamist cases we've had here, though I can't imagine what pro-arguments the jurists would be considering.

ps, I've heard of many ways to get out of JD, but never by seeming too eager! I'll keep in mind to put on a poker face if I ever get called for a case that interests me.D.K. If you serve on a jury and you still have some of your 2-week period left after the trial is over, you're still on call.

But it seems like the defense and prosecution are both anxious to find reasons not to accept jurors. Both sides ask lots of questions during that "Voir Dire" session before jury selection. If you don't want to spend time serving on a jury, just ask one or 2 relevant questions and you'll probably get dismissed from the jury.Tom Harperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05610417770240609022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-37442998635500608412009-02-26T17:14:00.000-05:002009-02-26T17:14:00.000-05:00I would LOVE to do jury duty. So what's up with that? Maybe they think I am too opinionated and know I'm ready to convict...I just don't get it.themomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05372778365091908638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-30506002051781265032009-02-26T16:39:00.000-05:002009-02-26T16:39:00.000-05:00Thanks for doing your civic duty ...and sharing yo...Thanks for doing your civic duty ...and sharing your experiences...

Now... a question... How's your part in our little competition going? Since I backslid significantly right after the gauntlet was thrown... I'm just about back where I started...and grumpy,at this very moment...and hungry all the time!! (I think I need some of Lisa's appetite supressors!! But I am walking or at least moving my body constructively, almost every day... And for me...this is good.

Hope you're doing well!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34240686.post-65277288357887050012009-02-26T12:12:00.000-05:002009-02-26T12:12:00.000-05:00It is part of our duty.. just as is anything else....It is part of our duty.. just as is anything else.
